For 30 years Streetlights, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, has been redressing the inequity of race and wages behind-the-camera on TV Commercials, Feature Films and TV Shows.
Targeting the hardest hit neighborhoods of Southern California, Streetlights provides Job Training, Job Placement and Career Advancement to young adult minorities – a skilled population that has been consistently overlooked since the inception of one of California's largest workforces: the Entertainment Industry.
Streetlights offers free Production Assistant Training and entry-level Job Placements, followed by Advancement onto Union crews or into long-term staff positions. Our focus is on the positions behind-the-camera: an area in which ethnic diversity continues to be conspicuously lacking. The lynchpin of our success is the Commercial Diversity Initiative. In this ground-breaking program, major Advertisers (Honda, Toyota, General Mills) as well as top Advertising Agencies (Saatchi & Saatchi) make Union Apprenticeships available to experienced graduates.
We have fulfilled our mission if every graduate is able to establish a career in the Industry, accompanied by a decent annual salary. Over 1,000 of our graduates have worked on more than 465 feature films, 525 television projects and over 10,000 commercials and music videos. They have been employed by companies such as 20th Century Fox, NBC Universal, Paramount, Imagine Entertainment, HBO, Walt Disney Pictures, Warner Bros., TNT and Sony Entertainment, among many others.
