Mustang News is the award-winning student-run newspaper of the Cal Poly campus. Since 1916, the editorial and reporting staff have been committed to providing the best possible coverage of all news relevant to Cal Poly's students, staff and faculty. Through the newspaper, journalism, graphic communication, design, and business students experience the inner workings of a professional daily newspaper, in preparation for careers in the media industry. In the spirit of free speech and student activism, Mustang News is entirely edited by students, with no supervision or censorship by the university administration. Mustang News is self-supporting and entirely financed by advertising sales. Mustang News has received numerous national awards, and is often commended for being on par with professional daily newspapers. Most recently, the online version of the paper, mustangnews.net, received the Pacemaker award for the best collegiate newspaper Web site.
Mustang News is a division of Mustang Media Group, which was formed in 2013, to envelope all of Cal Poly's journalism programs such as Mustang News print, creative services, television, web presence, public relations and radio.
