Lived Experience Australia advocates for people with a mental illness and their families and carers to make positive changes in mental health policy, planning and decision making at local, state and National levels to create a better mental health system.
We formed in 2002 and were previously known as the Private Mental Health Consumer Carer Network (Australia). Lived Experience Australia was established to promote the interests of members of the community requiring private mental health services. While we still advocate for the private sector mental health services, we also now provide national systemic advocacy for consumers, families and carers in all mental health settings.
Our mission is to engage, empower and enable choice in mental health. We promote effective consumer, family and carer advocacy as the drive force behind all changes in mental health services (we listen to your views, ideas and experiences and use these to create positive changes in the mental health system in Australia with government departments, associations and training institutions).
We do not provide mental health services directly, but we do advocate for quality, inclusive and responsive mental health services for everyone in the community.
Join us to stay informed with the latest mental health information for consumers, families, carers and health professionals and to have your say on the things that really matter.
