BBOWT has a bold vision of a wilder Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, with more nature everywhere for everyone – in towns and rural areas.
We all need nature – for clean water, food and fresh air - but nature needs us too. Our mission is to bring about nature’s recovery by inspiring and empowering local people and partners to help bring nature back.
To put nature into recovery, we need 30% of all land in our region properly managed for wildlife by 2030. And that’s good for our climate too.
By working together, we can create bigger, wilder, more connected landscapes across our three counties, so nature and people can thrive.
Our story
Founded in 1959, BBOWT is one of 46 Wildlife Trusts working for wildlife across the UK.
Using a science-led approach, we protect and restore natural habitats, which are home to some of our most precious wildlife. We work to promote natural solutions to the climate crisis – such as restoring floodplain meadows to tackle flooding and capture carbon.
Thanks to our generous supporters, our team of 150 staff look after 86 nature reserves and four education centres, run hundreds of inspiring events and campaign to make nature’s recovery a reality.
We are lucky to have an army of more than 1,700 fantastic volunteers to help us do this.
We also work alongside and in partnership with local landowners, councils, organisations and communities, to encourage them to take action that benefits nature too.
The Trust now has over 50,000 members – the highest number in our history. If we all work together, our future can be wilder.
