The Centro de Biotecnologia Agrícola e Agro-alimentar do Alentejo (CEBAL) is a private, non-profit research and development unit located in Beja. CEBAL aims to become a strategic infrastructure for the development of high quality research, technology transfer and innovation in the fields of Biotechnology applied to agro-forestry, agro-food, environment, waste valorization and alternative energies. CEBAL combines R&D activities with postgraduate teaching and training, consulting, services and incubation of technology-based companies. Researchers at CEBAL have expertise in areas such as Plant Biotechnology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics and Engineering.
