The Lifesaving Society Canada has been Canada's lifeguarding experts for more than 100 years, but we're so much more than that!
We are a volunteer led, registered charity and our members are in communities across the nation - they are your lifeguards, swim instructors, first aid instructors, and Water Smart advocates. We work with aquatic facilities, municipalities, and community groups to evaluate and improve the safety of Canadian pools and waterfronts. Our drowning research informs the development of our programs, safety standards, and other resources. The combination of our research and our long history in water safety are what makes us experts in our field.
Expertise is best when shared, and we certainly want to share ours! We provide Water Smart® Education and programs to engage communities in learning how to stay safe in, on, and around the water. Swim to Survive helps teach the fundamental skills needed to survive an unexpected fall into water, and our Swim for Life and Adaptabilities programs provide opportunities for swimmers of all ages and abilities to learn-to-swim and enjoy it for life. We also encourage advancement into Lifesaving Sport, and Lifesaving Society membership as a lifeguard or leader (swim instructor). These advancements lead to comradery, new skill development, and even job and career opportunities!
Our branch has been serving Alberta and the Northwest Territories since 1926 and has seen huge strides in the culture around water safety. Get trained, volunteer, donate, or simply like or share our social media posts – together we can build Water Smart® communities and prevent drownings.
