The Sophia Gardens, is the home of Glamorgan Cricket, one of 18 major county clubs and the official county cricket club for Wales. The venue is famous for hosting both domestic and international matches and in 2009 held the first Ashes match of the series. In 2013 Sophia Gardens Cardiff was selected as one of the host cities of the ICC Champions Trophy as it was again for the 2017 tournament where it held four matches, including the first semi-final.
