The City and County of Honolulu is the most densely populated of five counties within the state of Hawaii, with a population of approximately 905,601(2007, U.S. Census Bureau).
The City and County of Honolulu was incorporated in April 30, 1907. It adopted a charter in 1959. It is organized as a mayor-council type of government in which there is a separation between legislative and executive functions.
The mayor and council are located at Honolulu Hale, a landmark structure reflecting California-Spanish architecture popular in the islands during the 1920's
