TESEP is a teach-the-teachers program to help science teachers confidently teach Earth and Environmental Science (ESS) curriculum in junior-middle secondary & upper primary years.
TESEP is a not-for-profit, run under the auspices of the Australian Science Teachers’ Association, ASTA. The TESEP program has run in all states/territories for over 15 years, winning International & National awards. TESEP staff are both experienced teachers and qualified, experienced geoscientists.
TESEP offers face-to-face and online Professional Development workshops to teachers, unique teaching resources and classroom incursions with students. Teaching resources are designed for use in the classroom, the online classroom or the home-schooling environment.
Professional Development courses for teachers, webinars and classroom incursions include: plate tectonics, natural hazards, critical minerals, the rock cycle, fossils including mass extinctions, our place in space, energy and the energy transition, climate and groundwater.
The TESEP rock kit is one of the best available in the world and 950+ have been distributed to schools (and some university Engineering departments) across Australia, since the rock kit started. The rock kit includes stories about each Australia-relevant rock and Question and Answer materials to support student inquiry and their relevance to Australian geology and infrastructure projects. Each rock sample is linked to the TESEP Plate Tectonic Poster and extension materials including 3D imagery and virtual thin sections.
