Auckland Light Rail is much more than a transport project. It’s a step towards a better future and a chance to re-shape Tāmaki Makaurau into a modern, sustainable and well-connected city.
Light Rail will dramatically expand Auckland’s rapid transit network, making it easier for people to move around and get to work, study and connect with friends and whanau.
The 24 kilometre line will run from the City Centre to Māngere and the airport precinct – connecting the city’s two largest employment hubs.
It will be fast, frequent and reliable, cutting travel times by up to a half along the route and taking up to 14,500 cars off the roads, helping to reduce emissions and providing quicker journey times for those who need to use the roads.
With up to 18 stations it will provide better public transport options for under-served communities and help unlock well planned affordable housing along the corridor, enabling new homes in growing communities.
It’s all part of a wider long-term plan to connect into the North Shore and North West, making journey times quicker across the whole region.
