The Public Catalogue Foundation (PCF) is a small, entrepreneurial charity, now working as Art UK. Its mission is to open up the UK’s public art collections for enjoyment, learning and research. In 2012 it completed its ambitious ten-year project to photograph, record and reveal online the nation’s entire collection of oil paintings. The Your Paintings website, built in partnership with the BBC, showed over 210,000 paintings from 3,000 collections across the UK. 80% of the nation’s paintings are not on view and the vast majority had not been photographed before the PCF started work.
