İstanbul Deniz Otobüsleri A.Ş. was founded in 1987 by İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality in order to provide alternate commuting services for Istanbulites. Before İDO city´s sea transportation service provided by State owned Turkish Maritime Organization Inc.
Started off with 10 seabuses purchased from Norway İDO quickly became symbol of fast and confortable commute in Istanbul.
Between 1988 and 1997 number of vessels have reached twenty with inclusion 7 sea buses,two fast ferries and for the first time a high speed seabus built by a Turkish shipping yard.
İDO continue to launch new services connecting both sides of The Sea Of Marmara such as Yenikapı (İstanbul)- Yalova , Yenikapı (İstanbul)- Bandırma..
In February 2005 City Line Administration (part of Turkish Maritime Organization), the authority for commuting ferry services in Istanbul became part of İDO which makes the company world leader in term of passenger capacity , fleet size and ports of call serviced.
16 June 2011 , Privatisation of İDO and acquisation of İDO by TASS (Tepe-Akfen-Souter-Sera) Group has been completed.
23 March 2012, İDOBÜS services began between İstanbul and İzmir www.idobus.com.tr
Actually, İDO operates on 19 lines, and serving 32 points with 53 ships:
10 fast ferries ( vehicle-pass. fast ferry ), 25 seabus ( only passenger ), and 18 conventional vehicle-passenger ferries.
