Viking Aqua is designing and building The Next Gen RAS in Skipavika on the west coast of Norway. The land-based salmon company has a concession to harvest 33,000 tonnes of Atlantic Salmon whereas 5,600 tonnes as post-smolt. The RAS facility is based on a concept developed by AquaBioTech Group through a collaboration with Framo AS, Overhalla Betongbygg AS and Viking Aqua. The facility’s total size is 90,000 m2 and the site is 200,000 m2. Construction phase one is expected to begin in late autumn 2023. The Next Gen RAS is fish-centric, industrialized, fully automated and globally scalable. To meet the increasing demand and simultaneously solve the challenges the salmon industry experiences with sustainability and fish welfare, the company has a data-driven approach with a strong focus on R&D and strategic partnerships. The company thrives to deliver operational excellence without comprising its number one priority, biology. Our need for protein doesn’t need to cost us the earth.
