Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area is a local non-profit organization serving the Greater Baton Rouge area by providing education and support programs to those affected by Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.
Alzheimer’s Services is not affiliated with a national organization; therefore, all funds raised remain in our 10-parish service area which includes Ascension, Assumption, East and West Baton Rouge, East and West Feliciana, Iberville, Livingston, Pointe Coupee and St. Helena Parishes.
In 1983, a Baton Rouge neurologist and his nurse who cared for Alzheimer’s patients hosted an informational meeting for caregivers and patients. They planned for only 30 people to come to the meeting, but were shocked when they stepped out to speak in front of a packed house of over a 100 people in a standing room only crowd. It was apparent – there was a serious need in Baton Rouge for guidance with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
33 years later and that informal support group has evolved into Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area, the local resource for Alzheimer’s education and support.
The mission of Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area is to teach, care for, and connect with those in our community affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other memory-related impairments.
