Howard's FCC battles and advertiser objections forced him to escape to the satellite radio safe-haven. Next to exit WCKG was Chicago Radio Legend Steve Dahl. Some might even suggest WCKG was the house Stever built. Dahl left for Jack FM and then later left "Jack" to blaze a new trail in the world of subscription "pod-casting". WCKG has boasted some of the biggest names in radio but was handicapped and later sacrificed in a corporate radio chess move that resulted in Check MATE for WCKG. W272DQ was granted a construction permit to move their 102.3 FM to the top of Trump Tower in downtown Chicago. WCKG was granted approval to increase power of AM 1530 from 760 watts to 4,000 watts.
