The Malta Employers' Association (MEA) is a constituted body which brings together employers from all sectors of industry and commerce in Malta. It is, in effect, the "trade union" of employers, formally registered as such under the Employment and Industrial Relations Act (2002).
Daily activities of the Association include:
• Assisting employers with HR issues related to employment, policy drafting, etc.
• Organising info sessions and webinars of interest to employers e.g. Health & Safety, Remote Working, GDPR
• Conducting research on employment issues related to the labour market e.g. wage inflation, FFMs
• Developing courses on Employment Law, HR Management in Practices, Employers' Branding, etc.
• Communicating with members to analyse needs and trends in the labour market
• Writing Position & Proposal Papers to present to government
• Participating in tripartite social dialogue
• Collective bargaining at company level
The Council Members of the Association are sectoral and represent MEA members in various committees and boards at national and EU level. At national level, the MEA is a member of the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development (MCESD), co-Foundation member of the Foundation of Transport, a member at the Employment Relations Board, etc. At international level, the MEA is a member of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), SGI Europe and Businessmed.
