Statistics indicate that 1 in 15 South Africans are affected by rare diseases. Despite this, the rare community are severely under-represented and remain vulnerable from a medical and policy perspective. Rare Diseases South Africa aims to improve the lives of the 1 in 15 South African's living with a rare disease through improved advocacy, navigation, research and community engagement.
