The Townswomen's Guilds is an association of women formed to promote the interests of its members in accordance with the rules of the national movement. Guilds are formed in response to a demand in a particular locality and subject to the rules of the national movement, are largely autonomous in their conduct of their affairs and financing. The individual Guilds may be members of a Federation which are organised to serve local needs.
For the charity, the objectives are to provide administrative support to and co-ordinate the activities of the national movement.
The charity’s headquarters provide a function and more specifically, establishes Guilds and Federations where demand has been identified in a particular locality and offers them every assistance in their activities within the movement, arranges conferences and other functions and collects and distributes information for the use of the membership.
Townswomen's Guilds principle aim is to educate women across a broad spectrum of civic affairs and activities in order to raise their awareness of and involvement in those matters which affect them as citizens.
