THE STAR RADIO GROUP
The Star Radio Group forms an integral part of The Star Media Group, one of Malaysia's leading media companies with interests in newspapers, magazines, radio, as well as online portals. The Star Radio Group consists of four radio stations, namely 988, Red FM, Suria FM and Capital FM.
The formation of the Star Radio Group began with the incorporation of Star RFM Sdn Bhd (SRFM), a subsidiary of Star Publications (M) Bhd. on 6 February 1995. SRFM commenced operation on 1st April 1996 as the first radio station in the country to be equipped with a sophisticated studio automation system, manned by a team of creative programming personnel. Programmes were broadcast in three languages, namely Chinese, English and Bahasa Malaysia to listeners throughout Peninsular Malaysia with the call sign ‘RFM’ on 8 May 1996.
With an additional license being granted on 26 June 1997, the Chinese language broadcast began operating 24 hours as 988; while the second channel, Red FM, offered programmes in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
On 30th December 2005, the Star Radio Group was further expanded with the launch of a 24-hour Bahasa Malaysia station, Suria FM. It is managed by Rimakmur Sdn. Bhd., also a subsidiary of Star Publications (M) Bhd.
The latest addition to the Star Radio Group is the women-centric, English-language station, Capital FM, making its debut in December 2011. Managed by Capital FM Sdn. Bhd., a subsidiary of Star Publications (M) Bhd., the station is targeted at urban women from the age 25-35 in Klang Valley and aims to act as a sounding board as well as a platform for introducing topics addressing emotional and intellectual needs of women.
The Star Radio Group is committed to diversifying the power of radio by creating integrated multi-platform solutions for our clients, in line with our aim of 'Going Beyond Radio Airwaves'.
