Habitat Gaston builds strength, stability, and security through shelter. We build simple, decent housing, repair homes, and strengthen communities. Families and individuals need a hand-up partner with us to build or improve a place to call home. We use volunteer labor, the “sweat equity” of our partner families, and community investment of money and materials. We partner with families in the low-income range of 30- 60% of the area median income ($74,100) to make the dream of homeownership a reality. Following completion of partnership commitments (an extensive homeownership and financial planning education program, sweat equity hours, collection debt repayment, and saving for closing costs), partner families purchase their homes with an affordable mortgage. Owning a decent, affordable home provides families with a place to live where they can grow and thrive. Building equity in their home provides the means to plan for the future and break the cycle of generational poverty.
