Camp Kudzu’s mission is to educate, empower and inspire children, teens, and their families living with type 1 diabetes (T1D).
There is no cure for type 1 diabetes; it will not disappear with age or a change in diet. Diabetes can hold life-threatening complications, such as heart disease, kidney failure, blindness, vascular disease, and depression. However, children who learn to take control and better manage their diabetes can reduce the risk of these difficulties.
That’s where Camp Kudzu comes in – as we like to say, “until there’s a cure, there’s camp!” During our year-round programs, campers make new friends who are also learning to manage their diabetes. They explore the world around them and learn that “I can” is much more powerful than “I can’t.” Camp Kudzu is an environment created specifically for them, providing the ideal setting to learn life skills, develop self-esteem and gain a sense of independence and community.
Children and teens leave Camp Kudzu with a new resilience and zeal to take care of themselves that last long after they’ve returned home. Camp Kudzu educates, empowers, and inspires children with diabetes!
Camp also offers many opportunities to volunteer and participate in fundraising events.
