Stop the Shame Period is a registered non-profit association that aims to build empathy, awareness and community by developing sustainable solutions to the stigma and taboos around menstruation (www.stoptheshameperiod.org).
Our pilot project, GreenFlow (www.stoptheshameperiod.org/projects), consisted of educational workshops for children, parents, and teachers at Anjali House in Siem Reap, Cambodia (www.anjali-house.com).
Workshops covered three core themes:
1. Sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).
2. The importance of environmentally sustainable self-care product choices.
3. Collaborative Filmmaking (www.collaborativefilmmaking.com).
We aim to partner with additional organisations in the Global North and Global South that conduct education programmes in sexual and reproductive health and rights, with the aim of organising a Collaborative Filmmaking workshop at the end of each education programme. With our assistance, the resulting footage will be edited by volunteer participant-filmmakers into a feature-length documentary that will serve as a qualitative measure of the sociocultural determinants of sexual and reproductive health and rights.
Global screenings of the documentary, both virtual and in-person, will be organised by Stop the Shame Period using a pay-what-you-want (PWYW) model. All funds generated by the documentary will be gifted to the organisations that helped to make it possible.
If your organisation would like to partner with us, please contact Katherine de Gaullier des Bordes on katherine@stoptheshameperiod.org.
