Reading Mencap supports children and adults with learning disabilities and their families to live the life they choose. We are affiliated to, but receive no financial support from the Royal Mencap Society, and are an independent charity.
Our services include one-to-one casework support with any issue around disability, such as applying for welfare support, accessing social and health care, getting the right special education provision, reporting hate crime and dealing with debt.
We also run a variety of leisure activity groups, called Clubs, for children and adults with learning disabilities to make friends, learn new skills and stay healthy. These are also invaluable for family carers, as they get a regular break from caring.
In the current economic climate, we are looking to work with the community to sustain our services for the future, so we can continue to improve lives for at least another 50 years. We are working in partnership with businesses, Reading University and College, trusts and foundations, faith groups and other voluntary organisations; holding community and fundraising events; and engaging volunteers from all backgrounds.
