On behalf of the citizens of the Commonwealth, the Office of the State Inspector General (OSIG) serves as a catalyst for positive change by:
o Facilitating good stewardship of resources
o Deterring fraud, waste, abuse and corruption
o Advocating efficiency and effectiveness
o Promoting integrity and ethical conduct
OSIG is responsible for:
o Investigating complaints alleging fraud, waste, abuse or corruption by an executive branch state agency, non-state agency or officers, employees or contractors of those agencies;
o Administering the Fraud and Abuse Whistle Blower Reward Fund;
o Overseeing the State Fraud, Waste and Abuse Hotline;
o Conducting performance reviews of state agencies;
o Providing training and coordination of standards for the state’s internal audit functions;
o Performing inspections and conducting reviews of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services facilities and programs; and
o Reviewing operations of the Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission.
