Our vision is simple. We want to work together to improve the health and wellbeing of everyone who lives and works in Somerset.
We plan, buy and monitor most local NHS services in Somerset through a process called commissioning. We do this on behalf of the people of Somerset, our patients and their carers.
We receive a local allocation of tax payers money to deliver quality healthcare outcomes while making sure that patients, staff and the public are treated with dignity and respect.
We work with and for our local communities. At the heart of every decision is our commitment to deliver the health and care services the people of Somerset expect and deserve.
We value our staff and look to recruit candidates to share our vision and values, care passionately about people and healthcare and are effective at what they do.
Led by local doctors and healthcare professionals with knowledge of their specific communities and patient needs, we are committed to improving the health of Somerset’s population.
NHS Somerset is made up of 75 GP practices and these practices operate within nine commissioning localities. They work together to ensure the best possible healthcare is available and meets the needs of people in Somerset.
We plan local healthcare and buy services from district hospitals, such as Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton, Yeovil District Hospital and Bath’s Royal United Hospital. We also fund community and mental health services from Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
We work with patients, the public, and many partners, including local hospitals, local authorities, and local voluntary and community groups. Our goal is to improve health and deliver high quality health services to the people of Somerset.
