Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King County is a community-based, volunteer driven low-income housing developer. Through its unique model of low-interest loans and self-help homeownership, Habitat generates homeownership opportunities and opportunities for critical home repairs for low income households in King County. Habitat SKC is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing through constructing, renovating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Habitat’s ultimate goal is to transform lives and communities not just through housing itself, but by actively engaging the community to help improve neighborhoods themselves. Habitat has partnered with hundreds of organizations in 17 different cities within King County, building, renovating or repairing more than 600 homes for families in need of affordable housing and transforming local communities in the process. Habitat SKC also operates four retail Habitat Stores, selling new and gently used building materials, appliances and furniture. Proceeds from the Habitat Stores help Habitat SKC provide more housing solutions for families in need of a hand up.
