Architecture - Masterplanning - Interiors
The exposure to different scales of project; from residential and resort masterplanning, through a diversity of built environments [advertising agencies, hotels, recording studios, restaurants, nightclubs, art archives, luxury serviced apartments and individual houses] down to the detailed design of furniture, light and air movement has demanded an intensity of detail to the work reaching an almost fetishistic quality.
In response to each new project we strive to create fresh, energized and highly individual solutions, both measurable and nebulous. We seek out the proclivities of each context to manipulate, and at times, subvert conventional formats of program, enabling the development of a more fluid, flexible series of environments. In so doing, we aim to produce a portfolio of highly personalized projects, combining ergonomic, functional and technological concerns, but without compromising the pursuit of a dynamic, heterogeneous, sensual viscosity.
It has become increasingly clear to us that sensuality in Architecture must also engage directly with the issues of sustainability, energy efficiency and environmental responsibility. We are in the fortunate position of working in many different countries, giving us the opportunity to explore many different manifestations of low carbon footprint initiatives. KplusK have been working with environmentally responsible parameters for design for over a decade, and the most recent projects in Malaysia (the competition winning “Seeking Zero” project, to be constructed in Sentul Park, Kuala Lumpur) and Hokkaido, Japan (the Odin and Kimamaya projects) have provided the platform to build sustainable and enduring Architecture across the Asia-Pacific region.
