Ghella Abergeldie Joint Venture (GAJV) is the delivery team building Watercare's Central Interceptor. The Central Interceptor is New Zealand’s largest ever Wastewater Project.
We will be delivering close to 20km of tunnels, more than 17 shafts, a major pump station and substantial wastewater management and network infrastructure works. The Central Interceptor will run underground from Western Springs, near the Auckland Zoo, to Watercare’s Māngere Wastewater Treatment Plant.
GAJV combines more than 30 years of tunnelling expertise in New Zealand with over 150 years of Italian and international tunnelling experience and ability, to ensure the utmost skill and competence in the delivery of this landmark project.
Ghella has successfully completed numerous projects of this scale worldwide. These include the Legacy Way tunnel project in Brisbane which achieved world records in tunnel boring machine excavations. Currently, Ghella is working on some of the biggest tunnelling projects around the world, including the Follo Line in Oslo, the Sydney Metro and the Riachuelo sewage system in Buenos Aires.
