One Family, founded in 1972 as Cherish, is a charity which offers support, information and services to people parenting alone, sharing parenting and separating, and their children; to those experiencing an unplanned pregnancy; and to professionals working with one-parent families. One Family is a registered charity (Charity Regulatory Authority No. 20012212 and Charity No. 6525).
In addition to striving for fundamental structural change, we support individual families as they parent through times of family, work and life change such as separation, divorce and bereavement. We support families who have experienced difficulties including desertion, domestic violence and homelessness. We know that every family is unique, and so we work in a family centered way to bring about better lives for parents and children.
We offer a suite of Professional Development opportunities for people who work with families, parents and children. It includes our acclaimed three-day training programmes, 'Positive Parenting for Changing Families' and 'Family Communications: Coping with Family Life and Communication with Teenagers'. These and other programmes are facilitated regularly in Dublin, regionally, and can be facilitated on request for groups within organisations anywhere.
If you are a family support worker, social worker, youth worker, family therapist, educator, drugs project worker or counsellor, or deliver parenting/family support courses, our Professional Development training programmes will enable you to build on your skills, knowledge and approach.
Our helpline for parents, and for professionals working with families, is askonefamily on 1890 66 22 12.
We believe in an Ireland where every family is cherished equally. Our annual Family Day Festival celebrates all families, and it, and other events such as our annual Toy Appeal, offer exciting CSR and partnership opportunities.
