Privately owned by members of the Guinness family, Burhill Group Limited (then Burhill Estates Limited), was founded in 1926 to manage the estates of the then Lord Iveagh. One of these estates was Burhill Park, Walton on Thames – home to the prestigious Burhill Golf Club. Over the years the Company diversified and now has three divisions.
BGL Golf: The first of the BGL Golf properties was Burhill Golf Club, Walton on Thames which was opened on Burhill Park in 1907 using the Georgian Mansion as a Clubhouse. BGL launched into Pay & Play Golf in 1982 with the building of Hoebridge Golf Centre on an estate near Woking. Since 1992 Burhill Group Limited has acquired six further golf centres and two golf Clubs.
BGL Leisure: Currently within the portfolio are two health and fitness club at Hoebridge, Woking and Birchwood Park Golf & Country Club, both of which are located within existing golf properties. Accommodation is another part of BGL Leisure – Thornbury Lodge is an 11 bedroom farmhouse style lodge, attached to Thornbury Golf Centre in Bristol. BGL Estates: BGL Estates owns and manages a diverse property portfolio including two 1,000 acre mixed use estates (Burhill Park, Walton on Thames and the Pyrford Estate, Woking), gated residential estates, various commercial units and the Quay and circa 850 moorings at Bosham in the beautiful Chichester Harbour, West Sussex.
