Westbourne Academy is an 11-16 school in Ipswich Suffolk. Built in the 1930's as separate boys and girls schools, it has gone through many changes over time (including a High School and a specialist Sports College). It converted from a Local Authority school to an Academy under the Academy Transformation Trust in February 2013.
Westbourne Academy is a calm and happy school. We are an inclusive academy. We support all students, regardless of their starting point, to achieve their potential and develop the skills necessary for employment and life.
Westbourne Academy is not just a school it is a microcosm of the world with students and staff from all around the globe. Between them, they speak 32 languages and their differing perspectives on learning and life makes this a unique academy. We also have the pleasure of 30% of our students speaking English as an additional language and value the cultural diversity they bring.
Currently we have around 1000+ students. Many of our students do not have the easiest backgrounds and we are determined to ensure that we remove as many barriers to learning as possible. Around 30% of our students come from a disadvantaged background. We are delighted that Ipswich has been deemed an opportunity area for the Department for Education and look forward to taking an active part in this initiative to tackle disadvantage.
