Welvista is a nonprofit organization located in Columbia, South Carolina that provides vital healthcare to uninsured and underserved populations in our state through two programs, Medication Assistance Program (MAP) and SMILES for a Lifetime. Through our services, Welvista offers hope and wellness to our patients while reducing the burden of uncompensated care on our state and taxpayers. We have served the Palmetto State for more than 30 years. We are one of the largest mail-order pharmacies in the nation; in 2022 we filled 257,153 free prescriptions from our Medication Assistance Program. Our formulary includes brand name and generic medications; by providing a single point of access to over 170 medications that treat chronic illness, Welvista bridges a tremendous gap in prescription assistance to support hope and wellness in our state. We believe that a healthier South Carolina is a more productive South Carolina. Welvista is dedicated to making sure every smile is a healthy one through our school-based children's dental program. SMILES for a Lifetime provides preventative and restorative services to children in grades K-12 in rural South Carolina counties. These dental centers are located on school grounds, run during school hours, and transportation is provided lessening the burden on parents who would miss work to take their children to the dentist. To provide children the highest quality of care, SMILES partners with SC licensed dentist and hygienists from around the state. Since 2001 we have provided services to over 20,243 children and performed 120,204 restorative services; additionally, there is never an out -of -pocket cost for parents.
