REM was first incorporated in 1966 as Rem Manufacturing Ltd., founded by Frank and Helen Rempel, and since then went through two significant name changes, first to REM Enterprises Inc., and finally to S3 Enterprises Inc..
The company's first main products were chaff saving equipment and specialized seeding/harvesting equipment for ag research stations. Since then, the company has built a wide variety of products under their own brand as well as high quality components like steel wireforms and high efficiency blowers for other manufacturers.
In 2006 the company purchased a US facility and moved warehoused parts and the Delta Flexible Harrow production line to Shenandoah, Iowa.
In February of 2012, Frank and Helen finalized the sale of their company to son-in-law and General Manager of 27 years, Bob Sonntag.
Bob realized that the challenges of working with customers from the retail level through to OEM's had grown the company into something unique and diverse. Focus groups had begun to emerge, and the leaders saw that it was time to give those groups the freedom to pursue the opportunities that would take them in different directions.
In February of 2014, the company announced the sale of the last REM branded product – the GrainVac – and the formation of five new business units out of the original company, all under Bob’s brand “S3”.
Together, the S3 family brings a wealth of experience specific to both manufacturing and to agricultural applications.
