El Grupo VIDA (Venciendo Incapacidades y Desabilidades con Amor – Overcoming Disabilities with Love) is a large network of families who have children with disabilities that has been around since 1989 and exists to empower individuals who have disabilities, and their families, with information and training that will support them to be their own best advocate.
We believe our support groups promote economically self-sufficient families, free individuals from harassment and violence, and advance inclusion. One example of a success outcome is the story of the Sanchez family. Alberta is a single mother with an adult with developmental disabilities who attended a support group in June and recently shared at our annual picnic how the referral she received that day helped her connect her son Clemente with a volunteer opportunity that will increase his chances of employment. Both, Alberta and Clemente, were extremely happy to share the news.
Moreover, we believe that with love, wisdom and support of their families and communities, individuals with disabilities can experience and live happy and productive lives. We see our families thrive when given the opportunity to learn in a trusthworthy and safe environment that includes as many members in their immediate family, especially their beloved child or relative with a disability.
