The Faculty of Security was founded in 1977 within the Center for Educating personnel for security and social self-protection. The Faculty of Security remained the only higher education institution in the territory of former Yugoslavia many years after its foundation. It was focused on educating personnel that would satisfy the needs of the police and the security structures as a whole.
The institution was re-established in 2003, with the adoption of the Law on Police Academy. The law provided for the setting up of a commission which successfully completed the preparatory activities for launching the new institution. At the same time, the Police Academy became full member of “St. Kliment Ohridski” University in Bitola.
In September 2008, the Police Academy was transformed into two separate institutions. The Faculty of Security continued its work as a legal successor of the police Academy, and an organizational unit of the University of Bitola.
