KFAM’s mission is to empower underserved Korean American and Asian Pacific Islander families through culturally responsive programs. Since its inception in 1983, KFAM provides assistance to over 7,000 Asian American immigrants annually (unduplicated adults and children)—particularly women, children, immigrants, and low-income families. KFAM specializes in providing linguistically and culturally appropriate social services through its multilingual and multicultural staff. Our culturally competent staff provides core services in: (1) Clinical Counseling and Mental Health Services, including individual and family counseling, psychiatric assessment, medication support, group counseling and psychoeducation, parenting education, mental health screenings, and preventive care education/workshops. (2) Domestic & Family Violence Intervention Programs, including 24-hour crisis hotline, victim/trauma counseling, case management, survivor support group, batterers intervention program, child abuse prevention and intervention, financial empowerment training, collaborating with faith leaders to become first hand responders and preventive education. (3) Child & Adult Wellness Services, including Child Care Food Programs, Family Law Clinics, consumer mediation, Senior yoga, Second-Hand smoking Prevention and Education, Physical health and wellness programs and bridging support to housing, medical, legal and social services. (4) Asian Foster Family Initiative, including recruitment, training and support for Korean and other Asian Pacific Islander (API) foster parents to provide culturally appropriate, safe homes to API foster children, child supervised visitation and parenting education. KFAM is the nation’s first and only Asian Pacific Islander (API)-focused Foster Family Agency with services available in Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog and Vietnamese.
