Pyongyang University of Science and Technology is the first and currently only privately-run university in the DPRK. The university opened its doors to the first 50 graduate students in October 2010, and today, PUST has 500 male and female undergraduate students and 60 graduate students, including 5 graduates studying Dentistry in the Division of Medical Sciences.
PUST is the largest community of foreigners in the DPRK, with more than 60 foreign faculty from China, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and other parts of Europe. The foreign faculty teach in the schools of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Foreign Languages, and International Finance and Management. Among the PUST foreign faculty are graduates from Cambridge, ETH, and MIT as well as former faculty members at prestigious universities such as Baylor University in the U.S. and the University of Surrey in the UK. The faculty also includes published scholars in their fields of expertise such as rice breeding, cloud computing, statistics, and actuarial science.
