ARK (Architects + Research + Knowledge) Inc. was borne of the desire to create a design team dedicated to excellence in architecture, geared specifically to the particular needs of the non-profit sector. Operating as a sister firm to Petroff Partnership Architects, ARK benefits from the support of the larger firm’s resources and experience of over 120-design professionals, while maintaining a more personal, specialized focus on its public and community projects. ARK was founded in Toronto in 1952. The practice is a partnership of corporations with three partners and is located in Toronto, Canada.
Our long standing commitment to providing solutions to design challenges within the non-profit sector is demonstrated by the extensive work and leadership role we have taken in this field over the past 55 years. Our studio engages a close team of young Canadian designers in innovative design projects that explore and challenge the boundaries of architecture and design. Building consensus amongst diverse stakeholder groups, compatibility with the urban context and community participation are critical issues which our team has an excellent track record of addressing.
While our work has long been recognized for excellence of design, innovation and creativity, we feel our major strength lies in our great depth of experience and our practical approach to design and construction. We are committed to achieving the ideal balance between creative aesthetics and fundamental, pragmatic technical solutions that are economical to build and maintain. As a result of this approach, we have maintained a very good working relationship with leading non-profit institutions, municipalities, regional authorities, educational and healthcare providers.
