Age UK Cornwall & The Isles of Scilly was established in 1972 as the leading independent charity in Cornwall working to improve the wellbeing of people in later life. Working every day, all year round they ensure older people receive opportunities to enable them to thrive. Whatever our age, we want healthy, happy lives so Age UK provide a range of services and opportunities to help over 50s achieve independence. A team of hundreds of staff and volunteers offer sustainable solutions to individuals and families such as information, support, advice, socialising, exercise, new skills and financial assistance.
Over 45,000 local people benefited from help in 2011-12, which resulted in an impressive £840,191 of additional benefits being claimed by older people.
As well as helping Cornwall’s older population access financial help, the charity focuses strongly on allowing individuals to lead fun social lives. 468 Volunteer befriender home visits took place last year and the TAP Transport service covered 2,307,125 miles, providing nearly 100,000 journeys for those who may otherwise be unable to travel.
The Truro Offices at Boscawen house are open 5 days a week, so feel free to pop in for advice, leaflets, to purchase a raffle ticket or even to donate. If you have a fundraising idea, Age UK Cornwall would love to hear it and will be happy to provide you with a pack to get you started.
