PEP Housing was started by a group of clergy and civic leaders in Petaluma who were appalled to discover that many elderly in our community were living out their senior years in converted garages, storage units, and tents without heat or running water. Our founders believed that community volunteers could join together to sponsor and operate housing for low-income seniors living on limited, fixed incomes. As a result of their efforts, in 1978 Petaluma Ecumenical Properties was established. Now known as PEP Housing, the organization has developed and manages 16 affordable housing properties with 431 apartments accommodating over 500 low-income seniors.
PEP Housing continues its mission of “providing quality affordable housing, housing support services, and advocacy for the low-income community” by constantly being on the look out for opportunities to develop new affordable housing projects. Our goal is to bring quality affordable housing to other communities that can benefit from our successful affordable housing model, doubling our housing stock in the next five years, while maintaining the lowest rental rates in the North Bay. To this end, PEP Housing is expanding our development projects into other parts of Northern California.
