Cancer Care West is a registered charity providing practical and emotional supports and services to anyone who needs them. Cancer Care West’s vision is that no one will go through a cancer experience alone and offers cancer support services to help people manage the impact of cancer on their lives. Cancer Care West does not charge for any of the services it provides.
Inis Aoibhinn, Cancer Care West’s residential facility located on the grounds of University Hospital Galway, provides residential accommodation to Radiotherapy patients whilst undergoing treatment at UHG. Inis Aoibhinn has 33 ensuite bedrooms with facilities for a patient’s family member to stay. The charity also provides accommodation support to families who have a loved one undergoing long term cancer treatment in Galway.
Cancer Care West provides community and hospital based support services through its Cancer Support Centres in Galway and Donegal. Information, counselling, peer networking, practical classes and therapies are offered to anyone who needs them.
Cancer Care West provides psycho oncology counselling at the patient’s bedside at University Hospital Galway, the Galway Clinic and Letterkenny General Hospital; directly through its Galway and Donegal Cancer Support Centres and through outreach all over the west and northwest of Ireland.
Cancer Care West also organises a number of conferences, talks, seminars and courses for patients, carers and cancer care professionals each year and funds a small number of specific research projects
