The Tim Bacon Foundation is a Registered Charity (No. 1173108) and was established in Tim Bacon's name to recognise his achievements, continue his legacy and to echo his legendary spirit of generosity.
Tim was always vibrant, inspiring and generous . The businesses he led and worked in together changed the face of Manchester's restaurant scene and he left his unique mark on friends, employees and customers alike.
The Foundation’s fund raises with an aim to support charities funding specific research projects and to help people to live with cancer.
So far we have funded:
£500,000 to support The Christie Hospital in their appeal to raise funds for the first Proton Beam Therapy Center in the UK located in Manchester. With matched European research funding the total was worth £1.5m to the Center.
£68,000 to Maggie's Manchester based close to The Christie. Maggies provide much needed free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their families and friends and is a key partner for the clinical services of the Christie Hospital. Our donation equates to keeping the center open for 20 days. The Tim Bacon Foundation have pledged 10% each year of their fundraising to Maggies.
£99,000 to Kidscan to fund research into children’s cancer treatments this donation funds 3 PhD students for three years.
£96,000.00 to Prevent Breast Cancer for their Breast Density Research Project. The funding is for two Tim Bacon Foundation Research Projects in breast density. Breast Density was identified in the 70’s as a key indicator in the likelihood of developing breast cancer but is only just now being fully understood. The work we are funding will assist with early diagnosis which is the most important element in survival rates.
