The Department of Economics at the University of Zurich is one of the three leading economics departments in Europe and a global leader in the fields of Development Economics and Neuroeconomics. We are committed to a truly multidisciplinary approach, which combines modern economics with elements of history, political science, psychology, sociology, biology, and neuroscience. We are the #1 Department on the European Continent based on publications in leading journals of our field.
RESEARCH: Our expertise spans most fields of economic research. We are proud to host two world-renowned research laboratories. The ‘Laboratory for Social and Neural Systems Research’ and the ‘Laboratory for Experimental and Behavioral Economics’.
EDUCATION: We offer challenging courses for students on all levels. In addition to Undergraduate Courses (BA/MA) the Department offers two Graduate Programs and a Pre-Doc program for young talents.
DIALOGUE: We share our insights and contribute to the academic and public discourse. We regularly host public lectures, academic workshops and networking events for Alumni and the community of Economists in Switzerland. Our researchers advise on current affairs and our research is regularly covered in leading international and national media.
More than 300 members contribute to our Department’s success. The Department consists of 40 Professorships, 100 PhD students, 100 researchers, 80 support staff and around 500 undergraduate students.
