Expect is a charity who support people living with learning disabilities or mental health problems either in their own homes, residential service or through our outreach service.
Our staff work with individuals at their own pace, to develop new skills and knowledge, or regain skills that may have been lost due to their illness. The support we provide is wide and varied and an example of some of the work we currently undertake is supporting people to find/attend a college course or voluntary work, take up a new interest/hobby, support in using public transport, housekeeping, shopping, bill paying and budgeting, reducing isolation, accessing health care services etc.
We encourage individuals to help us develop a Person Centred Plan based on their needs and aspirations, whilst being mindful of holistic needs (physical, emotional, social, educational and spiritual). We aim to ensure that the people we support have every opportunity to participate fully in community life and to feel part of the community in which they live.
Our overall aim is to promote independence by not doing for people, but to empower people to do for themselves. We believe this approach builds confidence and self esteem, mental and physical health and helps maximise a persons independence.
We pride ourselves in having a team of trained and dedicated staff who actively look for ways for promoting independence.
