Te Ara Ahunga Ora Retirement Commission is the home of financial capability in New Zealand. Our purpose is to empower the people of Aotearoa on their journeys to a better retirement. Our work is community based and we collaborate with other government agencies, non-government organisations, the commercial sector and the education sector. We also work with international organisations such as the OECD to contribute to the worldwide effort to build financial capability. We provide free, independent trusted information to managing personal finances through our Sorted brand - visit sorted.org.nz.
We are also responsible for:
• Reviewing New Zealand's retirement income policies and providing advice to government on issues such as the sustainability of New Zealand Superannuation and the role of KiwiSaver
• Supporting the development of quality financial education resources for use in schools and adult learning environments
• Ensuring the legislative framework for retirement villages is effective and that retirement village operators comply with the Retirement Villages Act 2003, regulations and code of practice
• Leading the National Strategy for Financial Capability
