We are Thrive Alabama.
People with HIV now live longer, healthier lives. Once we thought of HIV/AIDS in terms of survival. But now our clients thrive. More than 2,400 people in North Alabama benefit from our medical, behavioral health, substance abuse, housing, and case management services.
As the AIDS Action Coalition, we began offering support to those living with HIV and AIDS in 1988. Services were provided to clients by volunteers and included simple acts like providing dinner or assisting with rent payments. Money for this support came from donations given by people in the community with a desire and willingness to help. In 1992 the AIDS Action Coalition opened Joe Davis Clinic to provide medical services to HIV infected persons. The Davis clinic currently serves more than 600 active clients and has touched the lives of thousands since first opening its doors.
Today, we are a nonprofit with a $4.8 million annual operating budget, which provides medical care and support services to anyone living with HIV and AIDS in North Alabama. The clinic is partially funded through the Ryan White Care Act, state supported grants, and the generous donations of its community. For HIV positive patients all medical services are provided regardless of the client’s ability to pay.
Our dedication to our clients will never diminish. As our footprint has expanded to include clinics in Florence and Albertville, as well as, a sexually transmitted infection clinic in Huntsville, we know the future will hold even more opportunity to serve people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS.
