At the Marineterrein we are learning how to keep the city of the future liveable for everyone. By collaborating and experimenting with a collective of organisations and knowledge institutes, we explore how the city can best adapt to the fast-changing world.
The challenges facing cities like Amsterdam are becoming increasingly bigger and more diverse: heat stress, a city bursting at the seams, growing inequity, educational systems that need to keep up with the rapid changes in the workforce, increasing tourism and more and more traffic.
Government, companies, scientists, students, creatives and creators come together on the Marineterrein to develop and test innovative solutions for these challenges. The experiences of the citizens of Amsterdam and other visitors to the former naval yard contribute to developing solutions that fit the specific circumstances of the city.
Currently, about fifty handpicked organisations and knowledge institutes are based at the Marineterrein and around six hundred students are learning here in practice. This makes the Marineterrein a key location for innovation and an inspiring example for other cities worldwide.
