We help neighborhoods, and the neighborhoods help us. When our co-founder Jerry Gottesman started Edison in 1956, he didn’t plan to lead a real estate empire. Jerry intended to run a great, customer-focused parking business with his brother Harold. That first parking lot on Edison Place in Newark, New Jersey, adjacent to Newark Penn Station, was perfectly situated to serve the many businesses in the area ... and gave the brothers inspiration for the name of their own business: Edison Properties.
This initial business set the template for what was to follow. Edison Properties’ philosophy was, and remains, to meet the needs of our customers, team members, and communities with long-term vision, not merely to seek short-terms gains. This same philosophy led them to create Manhattan Mini Storage – the only large-scale urban storage company of its kind; and later, to develop state-of-the-art office and apartment buildings.
And now, Edison Properties takes the mission of rising together back to where it all started. In 2019 we completed work and moved our headquarters to a large warehouse in downtown Newark, New Jersey, that we transformed into cutting-edge office and retail space. Ironside Newark helps to continue the rebirth of New Jersey's largest city.
Fittingly, our newest project is located just a few blocks from our first parking lot ... both are right on Edison Place.
