Children First Derby was established in 1974 by a local Derby resident, Etheleen Mildred Wigley, after reading about the death of a neglected child.
The charity operates from its premises on Leopold Street and provides three bespoke services; Supervised Family Time, Family Support and Mentoring Services.
Our Supervised Family Time Service for looked after children, enables families to spend time with each other in a welcoming, child friendly and safe environment. By providing a safe space, we aim to ensure that contact sessions are meaningful and fun for all the family members that attend.
The Family Support Service utilises trained volunteers who work with families in the local community, providing one to one support and information. The support can be offered to any family with children up to the age of 18, living at home. The purpose of the service is to support parents to move forward positively with their lives which in turn has a positive impact on their children.
We also offer one-to-one Mentoring Services to young people aged 10 to 18 in the local community. By building a positive relationship with the mentee, the mentor encourages and supports the young person to make positive decisions regarding their life and helps them to engage with their local community.
We always welcome volunteers. If you would like to volunteer with us, or to find out more about the current vacancies at Children First Derby, please visit our website on the link below.
