The AIHTA sees itself as an independent instance of scientific decision support in the health sector. We provide the scientific basis for decisions in favour of an efficient and appropriate use of resources. We work in 9 research areas, which are often cross-project and interdisciplinary. We take a broad socially relevant view of medical interventions and are committed to a qualitative concept of progress. We see ourselves as an innovative and creative interdisciplinary think tank that also aims to further develop HTA methodology. The comprehensibility of our results is important to us: systematic work and the disclosure of methods enable comprehensible results. We work at a distance from interest groups and do not allow ourselves to be taken over by them, regardless of whether they are payers or market providers. Intensive international networking enables us to avoid redundancies and to stay at the cutting edge of knowledge. The AIHTA is an independent, scientific institution and is oriented towards the latest state of HTA methods, just as it is involved in the further development of new HTA methods. A joint HTA methods manual was developed for Austria.
